Meeting Minutes 5/20

Hey, hey, hey! It's Fat Albert! Jes' kiddin'. It's only Sam, sorry to disappoint. Any-skidoodle, on Monday, May 20th in the year 2013, the Tigard High School Thespian Troupe #2833 held a meeting to initiate new members and to discuss pressing issues. The following are among the items discussed:

 Improv-A-Java

  • Wednesday, May 22
  • Set-up will begin immediately following school. All thespians are required to be there. Set-up will conclude around 5.
  • The cafeteria will be open at 6 for guests to come and enjoy refreshments. Thespians are required to be here by 6.
  • The improv show starts at 7, and will be followed by the awards presentation. We should conclude around 9 to 9:30-ish.
  • All thespians and advanced theatre students are required to be there. Advanced theatre will be performing, non-advanced theatre thespians will be running concessions, ticket sales, etc.
  • Uniform for Improv-A-Java is all black with a splash of color. One small article of clothing that is bright and colorful (tie, socks, headband, etc.) and the rest, completely black.
  • If you would like, you may bring a change of clothes for the awards presentation, but it is completely and utterly optional.
  • The awards presentation is optional if you are not a thespian, but not optional if you are a thespian.
  • If you volunteered to bring things, please don't forget. If you can't remember, just refer back to the earlier post.
  • We are still looking for a handful more syrup flavors. If individuals could please, please volunteer to bring a flavor not already purchased, it would be much appreciated. And if you do so, go ahead and comment on the items-list post where others have commented in regards to syrup flavors, so as to avoid multiple purchases of one flavor.

Thespian Overnighter

  • Friday, May 31
  • We are still looking for a place to host this. If your house is available, please comment on this post, so we have an idea of who is able to host.
  • If you do host, we will all be chipping in both monetarily and through food donations as well. We could even go pot-luck style if people are so inclined.

The Next Thespian Meeting

  • Monday, June 3rd
  • At this meeting we will be initiating the new Thespian Officers
  • We will also be going over patronage stuff, so it's crucial that you be there.
  • And it'll be the last for the seniors. I believe the last of this year, as well.

As always, if you missed the meeting, go ahead and meet me in the commons at a table near the gym for the TMM. You'll be excused for missing the meeting, and all will be well.
Initiates, Congratulations! Happy initiation, and welcome to our family!

Also, Cash & Carry is a fabulous place to shop for these kind of things. A lot of stuff for a little $$$. Thanks to all those who're bringing something. Remember, it'll be needed at the very latest on Wednesday, May 22nd. Obviously ice cannot be purchased much earlier, but that other stuff probably can. Thanks!

Meeting Minutes 5/6/13

Hey guys! So, yeah, we did have a meeting. And if you weren't there, you missed Rachel and I not having voices. Missed out, man. Missed out. You also missed some key information. But that's why we have Tuesday meeting make-ups, and the meeting minutes. And without further introduction, the meeting minutes:

Initiations

  • They will be held next Monday.
  • Location is TBA, but they will be next Monday.

Point sheets
  • Must be turned in by Friday.

The Second-Semester One-Acts will be on May 28th. All Thespians are required to go.

The Thespian Over-nighter will be on Friday, May 31st. If you would like to host it, please talk to your parents, and see if they would be ok with it. We will be giving preference by seniority, but underclassmen can still host, if it's available.

Mr. Nick Bussey had to pay for those individuals who did not pay at Red Robin, and also paid for directors gifts. If you will please give him a dollar, or two, it would be greatly appreciated.

As always, DO SCRIP. Talk to Bussey about it. He'll hook you up.

  • Patrons will be getting comp tickets to the Improv-A-Java.
  • Tickets are a $5 suggested donation.
  • If we asked you to bring something, please don't forget. We'll beat you up. I'll be posting a separate list of those individuals who offered to bring things, and what you volunteered to bring.

    • This will be due Monday, May 13th
    • Nominees for Clutch include:
      • Evan fixing the lights (As You Like It)
      • Cody Breaking the stage (Ink 4-ever)
      • Audrey saying "And so I am for Rosalind" (As You Like It)

      • Harrison tripping off his podium (Our Town)
      • If you remember one, go ahead and comment on this post, and we'll see if we can add it to the ballot.
Thanks, guys! Hope you enjoyed reading this long post. Not! Nobody probably read this far. But thanks, anyway. Oh, yeah: If you missed the meeting, be sure to come talk to me tomorrow morning during access time for TMM. I'll be in the commons at a table near the gym. Good night!

Meeting Minutes 4/29

Hey guys! So the meeting was pretty short, and pretty self-explanatory. For Our Town, be at school, because you can't be involved in after school activities if you're not at school. Make sure to get lot's of rest, and stay healthy. Drink water, eat your vegetables, etc, etc. Also, if you have any Emergen-C, or Airborne, consume those things to help fight off those nasty bugs that could be going around. Ticket Sales: Thanks, again to all of those who volunteered, and if you are selling tickets, make sure to remember when and where. We've only got this week, so we don't want anybody dropping the ball on this one. Another great way to advertise is by writing on your teacher's boards about Our Town. It's very effective. If you happened to miss the meeting, I'll be in the commons at a table near the gym Tuesday morning, waiting for you. It's totally pain free. Just come on down and check in. That's it, and that's all. Merry Christmas!

And it's also posted in the theatre. You know, if you forget for some strange reason when you're selling, you can check it there. Sweeeet....

Meeting Minutes 4/15

Hey, everybody! I know there was some confusion as to whether there was a meeting or not, and there was, so sorry for any and all miscommunications. But anyway, the meeting was short, so the meeting minutes will be short, as well.

Our Town

  • All Thespians are required to participate in Our Town.
  • There is a work party for Our Town tomorrow, which is required for all those involved in Our Town, ie, required for all Thespians.
  • Your contracts and progress are due to either Mica or Aria by April 22nd.
  • All Tech and actors are called from the 18th going forward. So, after the 18th, you're all required to be there.
  • Seniors: Don't skip on Senior Skip day. It's imperative that everyone is at rehearsals. Skip in May. Who cares about May?
Improv-a-Java
  • The Improv-a-java will be on Wednesday May 22nd
  • All thespians are required to work the show, unless you are in the advanced theatre class, in which case, you'll be in it.
  • We will be asking for donations for things like Club Soda, Ice, Coffee, etc., so if you can help with things of that nature, please be thinking of that in advance.
Shows at Other Schools
  • It'd be great if we could support other Troupes by seeing their shows!
  • I know Beaverton High School is showing Legally Blonde: The Musical. (It was enjoyable)
  • There's probably a bunch of other shows, too. Check the Oregon Thespians Facebook page, usually they're up there
Scrip
  • As always, Talk to Bussey about Scrip! Great opportunity for Free Money!
TMM
  • If you missed the meeting, as always, you can make it up by meeting me in the commons at a table near the gym on Tuesday morning during access time.
Also, don't forget to pay for Ablaze, those that are going. Thanks for being so super awesome, guys!

Meeting Minutes 4/1

No April fool's joke here, we so had a meeting today. And it was all about... STATE, STATE, STATE! Oh, Yeah! So, here's some of the important stuff we talked about involving state. And also, super congratulations to the new officer elects. Way to go!

Theme
First off, the theme is Legally State. Like Legally Blonde, but State. And just in case you weren't sure, it's totally this weekend. April 4, 5 and 6. Thursday, Friday and Saturday, respectively. Word on the street is we'll also have dress up days, so watch out for those.

Food
You will need to bring currency to pay for the meals in Salem (American dollars, preferably). As far as I know, there are no prepaid, prearranged meals. So prepare to pay for meals. Now, that being said, there are plenty of options in Salem. If you want to eat cheap, it is totally possible. Same could be said of eating at a ritzy, high class level.
Side note: On Thursday, when we all get down there, we will be eating together like a big Italian Family. I believe we will be eating at a pizza place, so we'll even feel Italian. Just so there is no confusion, though, we will be eating together on Thursday. Again, bring $ for that.

Forms
Second on the agenda, we were given a bunch of forms that are due by Wednesday.  And Todd will not be at school Thursday, so no pity if you miss the deadline. Wednesday. That means you've got two days to fill them out and turn them in. They are as follows:

  • Oregon State Thespian Code of Conduct (Turn into Todd, completed)
  • Oregon State Thespian Release Form (Turn into Todd, completed)
  • Prearranged Absence Form (Turn into Student Services, completed)
In addition, we were also given two itineraries, one for our bus schedule and also a preliminary itinerary for State conference itself. If you have questions about when something is, particularly when you're supposed to be somewhere, refer to those sheets, and I bet your answer will be found. Upon arrival in Salem, we will be receiving the official State Conference itinerary form, but for now, the preliminary one will be sufficient. Make sure you keep those forms handy, as they will come in handy.

Tech Olympics
Don't forget if you're on a team. That'd be bad. And good luck to those on a team. Let's win! If you have any questions about Tech Olympics, just go ahead and ask Bussey. He'll be glad to clarify any confusions.

Dances
Next to discuss are the dances for State Conference. (Usually a hit amongst the under 25 crowd and over 25 crowd alike) The dance for the first night, Thursday, is a masquerade theme dance. It's "Phantom of the Elsinore."
  • Now, despite it being a masquerade, full masks are strictly prohibited, for obvious reasons. (You could be a mass murderer masquerading as a harmless Thespian, and no one could see you because of your mask, then BAM! We want that to not happen)
  • You are allowed only a half face mask, and your name tag must be visible and prominently displayed.
The second night is "When You Wish Upon a Spotlight," honoring Disney in all it's overly commercialized glory. Be prepared for both dances to:
  • Dress accordingly. Following the themes is fun!
  • Behave like a civilized human being. Remember, you are acting as delegates of Tigard High School Thespian Troupe #2833. Don't embarrass us.
  • Dance your heart out!
Thespian Sweatshirts
For goodness sake, people, if you have not done so already, pay Blair that $30 dollars for your sweatshirt. Those of you who have not paid yet, ya'll being a burden. The sooner the money gets paid, the sooner we get those sweatshirts. And we be wanting them for State.

TMM
Of course, as always, if you were a square and missed the meeting, or were not a square, but still missed the meeting, you gotta make it up. And this time, even more so, it is crucial to come on Tuesday morning to make it up, because I am the sole owner of the forms for State. I've got all the necessary forms in my possession. So if you missed the meeting, you missed the forms, and you'll need them, so you'll need to come Tuesday morning to pick them up so you can fill them out.

Scrip
As always, we will continue to pester you about turning in those scrip forms to Mr. Bussey.

Huzzah! You made it to the end! Bravo, bravo! Your prize? Knowledge.

Meeting Minutes 3/18/13

Hello to all ya'll, cats and dolls, guys and dogs! Time for everybody's least memorable part of the day, the meeting minutes! Mostly State stuff, today.

Officer Elections

  • The voting for the next year's Thespian officers will be taking place Wednesday thru Friday this week.
  • Todd will have the ballots in his office. Go in during lunch or after school, and fill one out, voting for who you feel would be the best candidate for the job.
  • After Friday, Voting closes, so if you don't vote by then, you've missed your chance.
  • Good luck to all the candidates!
  • Remember: Vote Sam Richmann for Theatre Czar!

Thespian Sweatshirts

  • Sign-ups for Sweatshirts is due by Midnight on Tuesday. Get that done, or you don't get a sweatshirt.
  • You can sign up for a sweatshirt on the Facebook page, or you can sign up on the hard copy in the scene shop.
  • Sign-up with your name, the name you want printed on the sweatshirt, and your size.
  • The estimated cost of the Sweatshirts is $30.
  • They are American Apparel Heather Gray with a directors chair on the back. The quote reads, "Movies will make you famous; Television will make you rich; but theatre will make you good" Terrence Mann

State One-Acts

  • The casting of these will be from the pool of people who have paid to go to State.
  • Apologies to those who are getting replacement actors for your pieces. And congrats to those that are doing the replacing!

Tech Olympics

  • If you are interested in participating in the Tech Olympics and were not at the meeting, or did not speak to Bussey after the meeting, please do so ASAP.
  • Teams are being assembled and that needs to be done quickly. The longer you take to talk to him, the less likely it is for you to be on the team.
  • Unfortunately, not everyone will be able to make it on the teams, because we have so many people interested.
  • We are most likely going to do tech training this coming Saturday, March 23. We have a title to defend and want to be prepared to defend it well.
  • There is a also a chance of more tech training over Spring Break, so keep an eye out for that, as well.

Contracts & Progress Reports
  • Just a reminder to those of you in Our Town, make sure you turn in your contracts and progress reports!

SCRIP

  • Please, please, please, always be looking to get into Scrip. It's never too late, and every bit counts.
  • Questions? Talk to Bussey, he'll explain.

TMM

  • Of course, if you were not at the meeting, please come to the commons tomorrow morning in order to properly make-up your missed meeting.
  • I will be in the commons, at a table, near the gym tomorrow morning.

Meeting Minutes 2/27 - Special State Conference Edition

Hello! Every year, towards the beginning of April, Thespians from all across the state of Oregon gather in the magical land of Salem to hang out, watch shows and one-acts, compete in solo, duo and group acting, and meet Thespians from all across the state. This is called Thespian State Conference, but will more commonly be referred to as simply "State." The meeting us Thespians of Troupe #2833 had on Wednesday, February 27th was held to discuss logistics and some housekeeping dealing with our journey to State. Now let's take a look at what we discussed.

Who
Our Thespian Troupe, #2833, is only guaranteed 19 spots. We are also sending a number of competitors, and congratulations to them. It was decided that Thespians active in activities outside main stage productions would have precedent, and points were tallied giving us a list including the following 19 names, in no particular order:
Hayley
Blair
Mica
Bussey
Sam
Mitchell
Olivia
Nicholas
Rachel
Maddie
Patrick
Aria
Madison
Emily S
Audrey
Evan
Nina
Connor
Alex

The Waiting list is in order and is for those of you who were close. There is a chance we will be able to send additional Thespians to State, but no guarantees. If one of names listed above is unable to go to State, the waiting list will fill in in this order:
Emily A
Autumn
Danielle
Tyler
Alissa
Jezeth
Paul
Morgan
Harrsion
Paris

For those of you who are among the 19 automatic qualifiers, you must pay $70 dollars to the bookkeeper by Wednesday, March  6! Checks can be made payable to Tigard High School (memo line should just read Thespian State Conference). If you do not pay, your spot will be given to the next person on the waiting list.

We are also looking for Chaperones to, well, er, chaperone for State. We are looking for two. They would not have to pay. It would be free of charge for them. But they'd have to put up with us, so they pay in another way.

When
Starting after school on Thursday, April 4 all the way through roughly midday Saturday, April 6. An official itinerary will be handed out at a later date for those going, but you will be missing school on Friday if you go. (Totally worth it!) We will, unfortunately, not be able to stay overnight in Salem, so we will be taking the trip down and back each day.

To those of you who are competing, you will be leaving early on Thursday, and probably already know this, but what good is an overly long message without a little repetitive information?

Logistics
For those of you who will be going, remember to bring money for meals for all of the days. They do not provide food. Salem is filled with fun restaurants, though. Prices range from dirt cheap to pretty pricey. Plan according to how you like to dine. Also, we will be eating together on Thursday. Now it has been explicitly stated, so confusion should not occur this time. Bring money for this meal. I would say around $10 will do just fine.

We are planning on presenting one-acts from Ink 4-ever at State. The Advanced Theatre Class will be discussing which ones to send on Friday, March 1st. This will involve subbing out actors for most nearly all of them, so that will have to be taken into consideration. For sure, Olivia's one-act, Changed, will be presented, as it was chosen as part of the One-act Marathon.

We will be assembling a Tech Olympics team, possibly two or three, to compete in the Tech Olympics at State. We will be having a training day to prepare and possibly to act as a preliminary qualifier to make the team. That will be coming up in the near future. Both fortunately and unfortunately, I see no deadline for registering a Tech Olympics team on the Oregon Thespians website, so we'll just have to keep a wary eye.

Also in the subject of technical theatre, if you have any technical entries you would like to register for State, get those prepared and organized. If you are confused, check out this website for details. http://www.oregonthespians.dreamhosters.com/?page_id=100

March 7th Deadline (you know a date is important when it's a heading)
Parade of Troupes Slide is due on March 7th. Go Hayley!

Etiquette video is due March 7th. Go Maddie, and the whole team working on that project!

If you plan on running for State Thespian Officer, you must register by March 7th

Oregon Thespian Student Scholarships are due on March 7th.

If we want to have any workshops, those are required to be registered by March 7th. I believe this deadline also applies to any one-acts we want to perform. I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure it is.

We are undecided about having a presentation for Honor Troupe. Todd is considering taking a year off of running for honor troupe. We have to decide whether or not to campaign for honor troupe by March 7th. We would have to put together a presentation on how we positively affect the community, and such. I have no qualms with putting together the presentation, but would love some help in doing so. Hayley said she would help me, and I would like perhaps another person, maybe two, to assist in putting together a quality presentation. But the question remains: Do we want to run for Honor Troupe? (I would actually like people's honest opinion. If you feel it wold be good to at least try, let me know, and I'll put in the work. If you feel it's pointless work, let me know so I don't have to go about doing work for nothing.)

I know it was long, but this is all to keep the flow of communication steady and sound. And if you read all of this, and made it to this sentence, ask me for a cookie, and I'll put your name down in my handy-dandy pocket planner, and I'll make sure you get one. Because, wow! How'd you have the time to read all of this and not a) get bored, b) get really bored, and c) fall asleep? Bravo.

Anyway, any questions, comments, or concerns, please, please, please ask me, any one of the officers, comment on this post, shoot me an e-mail, or whatever you need to do to not be confused. We're here to help you guys. Peace, yo.

Meeting Minutes 2/11/13

Wow... Long time no see. Or speak, I guess. Or, type, rather... I dunno, but it's been a while. Well, now onto the important stuff. We had initiations today! They were a blast, as always. Never disappoints.  Congratulations to those of you who initiated today, and I look forward to having you cool cats around. You each bring a new perspective and insight, and it'll be fun! Couple of reminders for all ya'll just to keep in mind as we approach the Spring time and head ever onward toward the end of the year.

  • For those of you who haven't done it already, make sure to turn in your point sheets to Bussey. He needs those ASAP, so he can add up all your points and figure all of that out. DO IT.
  • Pick-up rehearsal for "Ink 4-ever" will be right after school tomorrow, Tuesday February 12
  • Speaking of "Ink 4-ever," who the heck is hosting the cast party? We, like, totally need a house. Totally.
  • "Our Town" Auditions will be March 4, 6, and 8
  • "Our Town" will be running in early May
  • Thespian State Conference will be April 4, 5 and 6 in Salem (Holla! Souper Kewl!)
  • Improv-a-Java will be happening toward the back half of May
  • Theatre Showcases will be happening towards the end of the year
  • Of course, over summer will be everybody's favorite thing, Patronage! (but that's not for a while)

If you missed the meeting today, make sure you come to the TMM (Tuesday Meeting Make-up) so you can get excused from that. Also, if you missed the meeting: bummer dude. Because initiations were awesome. Just saying.

Peace and Blessings, Peace and Blessings!
