Hello! Every year, towards the beginning of April, Thespians from all across the state of Oregon gather in the magical land of Salem to hang out, watch shows and one-acts, compete in solo, duo and group acting, and meet Thespians from all across the state. This is called Thespian State Conference, but will more commonly be referred to as simply "State." The meeting us Thespians of Troupe #2833 had on Wednesday, February 27th was held to discuss logistics and some housekeeping dealing with our journey to State. Now let's take a look at what we discussed.
Who
Our Thespian Troupe, #2833, is only guaranteed 19 spots. We are also sending a number of competitors, and congratulations to them. It was decided that Thespians active in activities outside main stage productions would have precedent, and points were tallied giving us a list including the following 19 names, in no particular order:
Hayley
Blair
Mica
Bussey
Sam
Mitchell
Olivia
Nicholas
Rachel
Maddie
Patrick
Aria
Madison
Emily S
Audrey
Evan
Nina
Connor
Alex
The Waiting list is in order and is for those of you who were close. There is a chance we will be able to send additional Thespians to State, but no guarantees. If one of names listed above is unable to go to State, the waiting list will fill in in this order:
Emily A
Autumn
Danielle
Tyler
Alissa
Jezeth
Paul
Morgan
Harrsion
Paris
For those of you who are among the 19 automatic qualifiers, you must pay $70 dollars to the bookkeeper by Wednesday, March 6! Checks can be made payable to Tigard High School (memo line should just read Thespian State Conference). If you do not pay, your spot will be given to the next person on the waiting list.
We are also looking for Chaperones to, well, er, chaperone for State. We are looking for two. They would not have to pay. It would be free of charge for them. But they'd have to put up with us, so they pay in another way.
When
Starting after school on Thursday, April 4 all the way through roughly midday Saturday, April 6. An official itinerary will be handed out at a later date for those going, but you will be missing school on Friday if you go. (Totally worth it!) We will, unfortunately, not be able to stay overnight in Salem, so we will be taking the trip down and back each day.
To those of you who are competing, you will be leaving early on Thursday, and probably already know this, but what good is an overly long message without a little repetitive information?
Logistics
For those of you who will be going, remember to bring money for meals for all of the days. They do not provide food. Salem is filled with fun restaurants, though. Prices range from dirt cheap to pretty pricey. Plan according to how you like to dine. Also, we will be eating together on Thursday. Now it has been explicitly stated, so confusion should not occur this time. Bring money for this meal. I would say around $10 will do just fine.
We are planning on presenting one-acts from Ink 4-ever at State. The Advanced Theatre Class will be discussing which ones to send on Friday, March 1st. This will involve subbing out actors for most nearly all of them, so that will have to be taken into consideration. For sure, Olivia's one-act, Changed, will be presented, as it was chosen as part of the One-act Marathon.
We will be assembling a Tech Olympics team, possibly two or three, to compete in the Tech Olympics at State. We will be having a training day to prepare and possibly to act as a preliminary qualifier to make the team. That will be coming up in the near future. Both fortunately and unfortunately, I see no deadline for registering a Tech Olympics team on the Oregon Thespians website, so we'll just have to keep a wary eye.
Also in the subject of technical theatre, if you have any technical entries you would like to register for State, get those prepared and organized. If you are confused, check out this website for details. http://www.oregonthespians.dreamhosters.com/?page_id=100
March 7th Deadline (you know a date is important when it's a heading)
Parade of Troupes Slide is due on March 7th. Go Hayley!
Etiquette video is due March 7th. Go Maddie, and the whole team working on that project!
If you plan on running for State Thespian Officer, you must register by March 7th
Oregon Thespian Student Scholarships are due on March 7th.
If we want to have any workshops, those are required to be registered by March 7th. I believe this deadline also applies to any one-acts we want to perform. I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure it is.
We are undecided about having a presentation for Honor Troupe. Todd is considering taking a year off of running for honor troupe. We have to decide whether or not to campaign for honor troupe by March 7th. We would have to put together a presentation on how we positively affect the community, and such. I have no qualms with putting together the presentation, but would love some help in doing so. Hayley said she would help me, and I would like perhaps another person, maybe two, to assist in putting together a quality presentation. But the question remains: Do we want to run for Honor Troupe? (I would actually like people's honest opinion. If you feel it wold be good to at least try, let me know, and I'll put in the work. If you feel it's pointless work, let me know so I don't have to go about doing work for nothing.)
I know it was long, but this is all to keep the flow of communication steady and sound. And if you read all of this, and made it to this sentence, ask me for a cookie, and I'll put your name down in my handy-dandy pocket planner, and I'll make sure you get one. Because, wow! How'd you have the time to read all of this and not a) get bored, b) get really bored, and c) fall asleep? Bravo.
Anyway, any questions, comments, or concerns, please, please, please ask me, any one of the officers, comment on this post, shoot me an e-mail, or whatever you need to do to not be confused. We're here to help you guys. Peace, yo.
